All this week is Fire Door Safety Week: 20th - 26th September

Since 2012, Northampton Borough Council and Northampton Partnership Homes have been upgrading all fire doors in blocks of flats.

The new fire doors, known as FD30s, have a 30 minute fire resistance time. They also include smoke seals. The doors prevent fire breaching outside the flat, and fire breaking through into the flat.

All flat front doors have a self-closer fitted, removal or disconnection of this device contravenes the fire safety regulations. If your flat door has a broken closer you must report it for repair or replacement.

A flat fire door without a working closer is not a fire door,  it is a hole from which fire and smoke will spread through out the communal areas putting other at risk

Please close all your doors before you go to bed, if a fire occurs then this will help contain the fire allowing more time to escape.

FACT: At NPH this year, we have been out to 7 different kitchen fires.

If you have a fire at home, your fire door may just save your life. If the door doesn’t close properly, something is wrong. If your door doesn’t close properly or the common area doors are damaged, please contact NPH so they can be repaired or replaced.

You wouldn’t remove seatbelts from your car, so why remove the fire door from your home?

NPH Fire Safety Officer Malcolm:

“People ask me why my front door needs to be a fire door?

"The simple answer is fire doors are required by law to keep you safe. You can never predict when or how a fire may start."
