Kit out the Nation - Could you donate your unwanted sports kit?

News Date:
Wednesday, September 8, 2021

We're delighted to be supporting the Kit out the Nation campaign, which is being led by local BBC radio stations including BBC Radio Northampton.

Donations can be dropped off at Daphne, our community bus, throughout September.

In a recent report, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee published data from Sport England which showed 100,000 fewer children met the recommended level of activity in 2020 than in 2019 and it was “of significant concern”.

One issue is around access to sport and exercise because of the affordability of kit, and the situation has been made worse by the pandemic.

So, why not check through your cupboards to see if you have any kit or equipment which is clean and in good condition, and donate it? Daphne will be visiting neighbourhoods across Northampton throughout the month, and while we're in your neighbourhood our friendly team will be happy to take in your donations. Any kit or equipment collected will be sent to Northamptonshire Sport who will make sure it gets to local schools and clubs who need them.

What should I donate?

Any everyday items of sports kit (clothing) and regular games equipment that a young person could use in an activity, including:

  • Footwear including running shoes or football boots;
  • Footballs, rugby balls, or tennis balls; and
  • Rackets and bats.

Unfortunately we can’t accept large items of gym equipment.

Please make sure the kit is clean and reusable, and please bag any items you’re donating.
