Work continues across Northampton to repair paving and fencing in NPH managed homes.

The External Works team have received praise for their hard work and dedication to improving the paving and fencing in Bellinge over the past few months. Bellinge is the first area where the new initiative of only using inhouse skilled tradespeople is being trialled. Results so far have been positive and residents are delighted with the finished work.

The ongoing programme will tackle the paving and fences, in NPH areas, that we are responsible for. Cracked, loose or uneven slabs will be replaced – using re-purposed materials where possible. Fences that have fallen into disrepair, wobbly, unsightly or weather worn will be replaced in its entirety – with the tenant’s input. The materials and methods used by the team are resulting in more durable outcomes.

Bellinge resident Ken had the fence panels replaced in his back garden. He told us: “It’s 100% perfect - a big improvement on the last fence. It looks great and it’s strong, it will last a long time. The [NPH] lads are polite, friendly and they work really hard – even during those days when it never seems to stop raining. I can’t thank you enough for doing such a wonderful job.”

Before work commences, an inspection of the area is led by External Works Team Leader, Heath Murphy. Heath ensures that any repairs required are done in keeping with their surroundings. Where possible, upgrades are made to improve the quality of living for our residents.

For example, Heath explained that: “The fencing along this pathway is opposite a school. The old fencing had gaps in the panels and was considerably lower. The replacement panels are overlapping and were raised higher than the standard length. This means better security and privacy for our residents, whilst reducing noise levels from the playground.”

Heath added: “The initial investment, by upskilling NPH staff, will create savings in the long-term - as we rely less on external contractors, the work done will be to a strict standard, meaning less wear and tear over the coming years.”

The next area Heath and the team will be heading to later this year is Standens Barn. We look forward to hearing more from them soon.
