Making a real difference

We celebrated an amazing group of young volunteers who recently put their heart and soul into making a real difference.

The young people, as part of their 12 week Princes Trust project, fund raised, planned a programme of works and then in 10 days painted and decorated the room. They also transformed what was an overgrown unusable bramble patch into a space for people to sit and enjoy a cake and a cuppa. They filled towers of tyres with flowers, strawberries and herbs that can be used in the weekly community café. Central heating has even been installed, which means the centre can be used regularly through the winter months now.

In addition to many local residents, young and old alike, the cafe is used weekly by DELOS - an organisation that provides a variety of services to individuals with learning disabilities.

This was the official re-opening of the Community Hub - attended by the young volunteers and regular users of the Hub. Lisa Jell, DELOS’ community link worker was supported by her band of service user volunteers Patrick Brown, John Watkins and Vanessa Windust, who undertook the cooking and serving of a fantastic lunch for everyone.
