Please read the conditions for keeping a dog below. If you want to keep a dog then please make sure you give us enough information to make a decision.
- The dog does not cause a nuisance or annoyance to the neighbours or within the neighbourhood
- The dog wears an appropriate identity tag at all times
- The dog is kept on a leash in residential areas and is not allowed to roam free or foul within the neighbourhood
- The dog is reasonably exercised and treated with care and consideration
- The dog will not be used for breeding purposes from the premises
- Domestic standards are maintained within the premises and that any damage caused as a consequence of keeping the dog is immediately made good at your own expense
- The dog is strictly controlled at all times when you have visitors to your property
- Permission for the keeping of a dog is only granted whilst you live at your current property
- Any dog or cat living at your property must be microchipped – it is compulsory for owners to ensure their dog is microchipped
Flats, bedsits or maisonettes
Dogs are not permitted in flats, bedsits or maisonettes unless you are able to demonstrate to our satisfaction that you that you have special circumstances.
These could include but are not limited to the following:
- you need a guide dog
- your GP, or another health or wellbeing professional has recommended you keep one
- you are a repeat victim of crime
Dogs covered within the Dangerous Dog Act
You will not be allowed to keep a dog that is covered within the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
It is a criminal offence to own or possess an XL Bully dog in England and Wales unless you have a valid Certificate of Exemption.
