How to manage the April 2025 rent increase if you receive Universal Credit
In March we included a letter and frequently asked questions (FAQs) with your rent statement about the upcoming rent increase from Monday 7th April 2025. You should also have a received a text message in the last few days about the rent change.
This is a reminder of what action you need to take only if you receive Universal Credit (UC). If you are a claiming UC, you must inform the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) so they can make the correct adjustment to your payments.
On or after Monday 7th April 2025 you can access your online Universal Credit account to inform DWP about the rent increase. DWP will send you an online “Confirm Your Housing Costs” notification to complete. Make sure you confirm your new rent cost and service charges (if applicable).
If you do not have an online Universal Credit account, or you would like to speak to someone at DWP please call: 0800 328 5644.
You need to report these changes before your individual UC assessment period ends. If you delay updating your UC account, this may lead to a reduced benefit amount and possible rent arrears.
If you are unclear about this increase or having difficulty paying your rent call 0300 330 7003 and ask for your Rent Income Officer. We are here to help.
