New and Improved Procedure to Help Residents Tackle Damp and Mould

Keeping staff skilled, knowledgeable and at the forefront of their respective field is one of the ways we continue to offer the best service possible for our customers. Recently it’s been the turn of our Property and Compliance team who continue to appraise the results of measures used to tackle instances of damp and mould in our resident’s home and keep up to date with changes in the market that could help make us even more effective.

Whilst the current measures we had in place for tackling damp and mould were found to be more than adequate the latest research within the industry showed that by introducing new products in the treatment of an affected residents home the results will be longer lasting and treatment less disruptive to our residents.

The products supplied by an ISO 9001 accredited company are applied in stages. The first phase removes all surface mould, the second phase eradicates any mould root systems and the third stage seals the wall to prevent mould regrowth. As a final stage, the affected area will be painted with mould resistant paint. It is our aim to adopt new evidence-based technology to improve our residents experience – therefore we are integrating this new, more effective way, of treating damp and mould going forward.

In addition to the new products and processes, staff from across the organisation have received additional in-depth training on how to begin to identify the source of the damp and mould issue. This should enable our teams to treat the issue more quickly and to lessen the chances of a reoccurrence. Colleagues from our Contact Centre, Trade Operatives, the contractors who carry out the works and the surveying team who undertake the diagnostic of the required solutions have all received the additional training; feedback from the participants has been very positive.

This training has now been implemented in the field by our in-house operatives and contractors.  This new way of doing things should delay the return of any mould issue and the treatment does not emit a strong smell or fumes, which reduces the disturbance to our residents.

As always, we’ll continue to monitor the market for other improvements or technologies that we can adopt to improve the outcome for our customers.
