Could you save with a meter?

If you pay a fixed amount for your water bills, you may not have a water meter. Your bill is based on your homes ‘rateable value’, and the amount of water you use doesn’t affect your bill.

If you have a meter, you only pay for what you use. You may save money by having a meter installed and only paying for what you use, but your new bills will depend on what you use. Having a water meter also gives you access to a range of tariffs which you may be able to sign up for.

Anglian Water has a water usage calculator which can help you estimate how much your household uses on average: Water usage calculator (anglianwater.co.uk)

If you decide being on a meter doesn’t work for you, or your bills are more expensive, you can switch back in the first two years. Anglian Water will guarantee you won’t pay more than your unmeasured charges.

If you apply to have a meter but Anglian Water aren’t able to fit one to your property, you will be eligible for Assessed Measured Charges, meaning you’ll pay a lower amount based on your estimated usage.

Anglian Water's tariffs

WaterSure tariff

If your home has a water meter, you’re finding it difficult to pay your bill and you need to use large amounts of water, the WaterSure tariff might be suitable for you.

The WaterSure tariff is more expensive than the standard tariff, but you pay a fixed price for the water you use.

To be eligible, you must have a water meter, receive certain benefits or tax credits, and someone in your household must have a medical condition which requires the use of a lot of water.

AquaCare Plus

If your home has a meter and you’re struggling to pay your water bill, you may be able to sign up to the AquaCare Plus tariff.

It has a higher fixed rate rather than standard tariffs, but charges less for the water you use.

To be eligible, someone in your property must receive a qualifying benefit.
