A spotlight on Volunteers' Week 2023

NPH is fortunate to have a team of volunteers who give their time to support our residents in different areas of the organisation.

In fact, in the past year, our volunteers have given a combined total of 2905 hours of their time – which is amazing!

Not only have they helped our residents, but they’ve also gained new skills and experiences whilst making friends along the way.

As part of Volunteers' Week, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the achievements - plus all the ways volunteers can get involved at NPH.

Scrutiny Panel

In 2016, NPH’s first Scrutiny Panel was formed to take a resident-led look at the services we provide and the processes employed to deliver those services. They check that NPH’s services work for all tenants and leaseholders - and provide value for money.

Panel members are offered training to be able to carry out reviews and make recommendations to NPH on how to improve if needed.

A number of reviews have taken place over the years and the Scrutiny Panel continues to shape the way NPH works. For example, last year the panel reviewed NPH’s handling of reports of damp, mould and condensation. The review made recommendations and we agreed to all the amendments that were within our remit to implement.

Complaints Volunteer

At NPH, we try our best to get things right every time. Occasionally, a resident has an experience that they feel could have been handled differently. NPH has a robust complaints process, and part of that is providing support to the resident, should they need it.

As with all our volunteering roles, training and support is provided, but to be a Complaints Volunteer, people need to have good listening skills, a good eye for detail and a supportive attitude.

The Paint Shop

In March 2020, The Paint Shop was officially opened. Having gone from strength-to-strength, it is undoubtedly one of our most popular services.

Without our subsidiary, Happy to Help CIC, and our amazing volunteers, The Paint Shop wouldn’t be as successful as it is. Everyone is welcome at The Paint Shop, meaning it’s not just NPH residents who take advantage of huge savings when decorating.

The Paint Shop has saved thousands of tins of paint from going to landfill - plus all proceeds from the shop go back into supporting our local communities.

Volunteers enjoy helping customers find the right paint for the right DIY job. We recently had some great feedback from one of our customers on social media: “I've used this place a couple of times. The staff are super helpful too and go above and beyond to find what you are looking for.”

Community Hub Volunteers

Our community hubs provide spaces where local community groups can meet to run youth projects, community lunches, wellbeing sessions and various other activities for the benefit of our tenants.

Hub volunteers help us with the day-to-day running of the hubs, reporting issues or helping with outdoor gardening work.
